From the Altadena Wildfires to the NoHo Stage: How Tamir Yardenne Built The Young and the Rest of Us

Back to Blog

What do you do when 21 years of your life, your home, and your belongings are swept away in a cascade of smoke and fire? If you are NYU Tisch alumnus Tamir Yardenne, you find your saving grace in the typewriter. You create.

Developed in the unsettling aftermath of the Eaton and Palisades wildfires, Yardenne's latest stage play, The Young and the Rest of Us, managed to turn profound displacement into a brilliant, biting farce.

Set in the melodramatic, high-intensity universe of daytime soap operas, the play follows a prolific Black lead actor chasing an elusive Emmy award. What unfolds is a fast-paced, Agatha Christie-style whodunit layered with a sharp, necessary critique of Hollywood's racial inequities and cultural amnesia. Influenced deeply by the character genius of the Carol Burnett Show and the technical precision of classical theater, Yardenne has crafted a story that demands to be seen live.

"I wanted to talk about when you forget where you come from. When you make it in this business, are you reaching back for others to come up after you?"

— Tamir Yardenne, in conversation with Los Angeles Performance Practice

The production was made possible in part by a crucial lifeline from the Los Angeles Performance Practice BRIDGE THE GAPS_FUND, a microgrant program supporting local artists rebuilding their creative practices after devastating environmental displacement. Thanks to this community support, the full artistic vision of the play has been realized on stage.

Garnering attention and local praise across the NoHo Arts District, The Young and the Rest of Us balances heavy social commentary with a desperate cultural need: pure, unadulterated laughter.
