This Thanksgiving, I had the joy of spending the holiday with my good friends Robinne and Philip at their home. I've known Robinne for over 25 years, and walking into their house felt like stepping into the past — a space filled with warmth, love, and a little bit of that holiday magic.
Robinne's mom and little Philip were there, bringing their usual sweetness and charm, as was Gabriel, and throughout the evening a few neighbors stopped by for dessert, adding to the easy, joyful flow of the day. It was cozy, spiritual, full of gratitude, and exactly what the holiday is supposed to be.
And the food... b-a-b-y, the food. (And with my greedy-self, lord have mercy...)
The table was a feast, and the desserts were truly something out of this world. The apple bread pudding, the cheesecake, and the sweet potato pie? Otherworldly. The kind of desserts that make you pause mid-bite and say WTF, IT'S A DAMN SHAME THAT THIS SHOULD BE THIS GOOD!
The sweet potato pie. Otherworldly. Criminal, even.

— Tamir's mother (she was absolutely right)
I brought my traditional corn pudding... not so traditional this time. Didn't quite turn out the way I hoped. DAMN! My mother always told me: “Don't experiment when you're cooking for other folks on the holidays.” And yup, she was absolutely right. BUT...
A Thanksgiving filled with warmth, community, and love — exactly what Gabriel and I needed after this year.
Thanks babygirl.
